Short answer: if you have the time and just want a shop window, a website builder may be enough. For a one-off job with clear limits, a freelancer fits. If you want to hand the site’s upkeep and its visibility on Google to someone on a regular basis, an agency working monthly fits better. The right choice depends on what you expect from the site and how much time you can give it.
Three routes, side by side
| Website builder (yourself) | Freelancer | Agency (monthly) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your time | A lot | Some | Little |
| Upfront cost | Low | Medium | Low to medium |
| Ongoing cost | Monthly tool fee | Per job | Fixed monthly |
| Copy and photos | You | Usually you | Usually the agency |
| Maintenance and changes | You | While you can reach them | Included |
| Google work | You learn it | Rarely included | Included depending on plan |
| Reporting | The tool’s dashboard | Usually none | Usually yes |
| Risk | Time and know-how | Dependence on one person | Contract terms |
When a website builder makes sense
If you enjoy working on your own site, can write your own copy, and standing out on Google isn’t your first priority. Watch for: the site loading fast on a phone, the domain being registered in your name, and adding it to Google Search Console yourself.
When a freelancer makes sense
For a one-off job with a clear scope: a new site, a redesign. Watch for: who you’ll reach when you need a change after the job ends, who holds the domain and hosting, and whether the files will be handed over to you.
When an agency makes sense
If you don’t want to deal with the site and want it kept current every month and visible on Google and in AI searches. Watch for: what the monthly fee includes, commitment and exit fees, where you’ll see results, and what happens to the site and domain when you leave. Stay away from agencies promising “number one on Google” or “we’ll push you up with a bot”.
Whichever you choose
- Have the domain, hosting and what happens when you leave in writing.
- Make sure the site loads fast on a phone; you can measure it yourself with Google PageSpeed Insights.
- Make sure it’s added to Google Search Console and that you can see the results.
- Keep your phone number, address and opening hours identical everywhere.
Where we stand
We’re an agency working monthly: site build, domain and hosting, maintenance, Google and AI visibility, and a weekly report in one subscription. No commitment: if our reports don’t convince you, you can leave in any month. There is no exit fee. When you leave, the site files are not transferred; if you ask in writing within 20 days, we transfer the domain to you with no transfer fee. We say so up front. Details on the Pricing page.
